If you have a clinical question and need to speak to a nurse or physician, the receptionist will take a message and inform the provider. Please leave a current phone number when you call. If this number is not your house, please let us know. The nurses at our clinic should be able to answer most of your questions and can consult with a physician also. Calls to our nurses will be returned the same day. If you have not heard from a nurse after two hours, please call back. Calls to physicians or nurse practitioners may not be returned the same day if that provider is not working on that day. The receptionist will tell you if this is the case. Physicians cannot immediately answer phone calls except in rare emergency situations, as they cannot routinely interrupt visits with patients at the clinic.
After-hours calls to the clinic will be answered by the answering service. Clinical questions will be routed to the nurse answering service at Children's Hospital. When you contact the answering service, they will have the Children's Hospital nurse answering service return your call within 30 minutes. If you do not hear back within 30 minutes, call again. The nurses should be able to answer most questions. If they cannot answer your questions or if you are not satisfied with the answer, the on-call physician will be paged. Please limit after-hours calls to situations that cannot wait until the next day the office is open.
If the answering service pages the on-call physician for you, your call should be returned within 30 minutes. If you have not heard from the physician by this time, please call back the answering service. After contacting the nurse answering service, please turn off anonymous call rejection by dialing *87. After receiving your call, this can be restarted by dialing *77.
We accept most insurances and bill most of them for you. Although we will bill your insurance as a courtesy to you, it is your responsibility to insure a response from the insurance company. To check about your insurance, please call our office. All Washington State Medicaid patients must present a current coupon on the day of service, or they will be billed privately for that day's service. All co-pays are due at the time of the office visit. You are responsible for all charges not covered by your insurance.
If your child is seen for a comprehensive health exam (a checkup) and has other significant medical issues that also need to be addressed, you may be billed for both the checkup and an office visit.
If you do not have health insurance, we can give you information regarding state programs for children’s health insurance. Please ask the receptionist for this information. We do offer a sliding scale discount program based on income for people without insurance. To qualify for this program, you must pay in full at the time of service. We will need proof of income.

The Peninsula Children’s Clinic is affiliated with the Pediatrics Department of the University of Washington. Pediatric residents from Children’s Hospital (doctors who have completed medical school and are in the middle of pediatric specialty training) spend time at our clinic. This is beneficial to the residents, as they have the opportunity to work in a rural health care setting, away from Children’s Hospital. This is also of benefit to the clinic and our patients, as the residents bring information regarding the newest treatments and diagnostic tests from Children’s Hospital. We are very happy to be a teaching site for the University of Washington and feel that this helps us to deliver medical care of the highest quality.
The physicians at the Children’s Clinic are all on staff at Olympic Medical Center, and most patients requiring hospital stays can be cared for locally at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. If a patient needs more specialized care, we will make arrangements for that child to be transferred to Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
The Peninsula Children’s Clinic has continuously accepted new patients since its founding. We accept new patients newborn to 17 years. We will continue to see patients already in the practice up to age 18. After age 18, patients will need to transition to care from a family practitioner or internist.
